We bought OVEN!!

After much researches, shopping and physco, we finally bought an Oven. It costs less than $200. We have some vouchers, hence nett price is less than $100 only.

Model: Tefal Activys

  • Oven ultra-2900 W
  • Large capacity - dishes round up to 33 cm in diameter
  • Espeto rotation - to cook all kinds of meat
  • Resistance articulated - for easy cleaning

Other features:

  • Capacity: 26 L
  • Selector Forno / Grill
  • Espeto rotation
  • Power: Oven 2900W / Grill 1400 1450 W
  • Thermostat adjusted to 280 °
  • Timer, 120 minutes
  • Paredes with self-cleaning "Cleantech"
  • Resistance upper and lower articulated
  • Indicator light of operation
  • Compatibility dishes round of 33 cm by 39 cm and sleepers
  • Board anti-adherent

We were contemplating between microwave and oven earlier. We were tempted to get all-in-1 machine which can do both functions so as to save some tabletop space, but we feel doubtful whether both functions can perform as good as it is mentioned in the brouchure.

Tefal Activys is a medium size average performance oven with Rotisserie. We probably will get a mini decent Microwave in future for food reheating purpose.

I'm so excited with my new oven! What is my first dish??!?! hahaha... :-P

Microwave or Oven??

I need to get a Microwave or a Oven now. Which is better??! I'm in dilemah. I want something which i can do reheat but i love to bake/roast as well.

I ever thought of getting 2-in-1 Microwave Oven. But wondering is that good idea (technically)

Any advise?

Curtains

Following are some pictures of our curtains.

Living room (Balcony): We love the 2-tones spiral shimmer effect. And the translucent Day curtain soften the whole ambience and we thought it add a little mystery to what's at the balcony. :-)

Dining area: String curtain (Tied up)

Dining area: String curtain. Far look, it's silver color. Closer look, it's white with black strings. The strings act as a seperator of the living and dining area. If want to dine and watch TV, we'll tie up the strings.

Bedroom 2 : We were thinking to have more colors in our bedrooms. Therefore tried a very daring and 'Hot' color, RED. It has the 2-tones swirl effect.
Master bedroom

DIYed roller blind at MBR's aircon-ledge window
Wah, i tell u, this is the most challenging task we have ever DIYed for our house. Initially was exciting to do this task.... but only realise that it's too near the aircon trunking, making drilling and accessing very difficult. We have gone thru the trouble to get a ladder (anyway we need 1 in the house) and borrowed power drill. After hubby installed the roller blind, he was totally wet and strain. But we are glad that the result is nice. It's white and blended with our white wall. The blind camouflage the ugly window and shield away the morning sun.
Study room : Material is actually with slight shimmer vertial stripes, but somehow it don't show in the photos. This grey color is lighter than the living room's.

Decorations:
Vase with branches and roundish 'flowers' on dining table. Oil portrait on the wall facing dining, sides to kitchen and corridor to rooms.
Closer view of the oil portrait
2nd longish oil portrait. Haven't decide where to hang this painting.

Curtains are up

"Block out the sun!" :-)

On the first weekend after the curtains are installed, we woke up later than usual cos our bedroom's sunlight is about 75% blocked. Curtain installer workers came on 24th Nov noon. Our experience with them were so-so. May be because we refused to move the sofa away to make their job easier. C'mon, that sofa is really very very heavy ok...

Pictures of the curtains will be up soon. (haven't take photo though, ooops)

We DIYed 1 roller blind for the window for aircon ledge. Wah kaoz, such DIY task is sooooooo difficult!! I'll tell you why next time.

Oh ya, we installed the wall clock and 1 oil portrait painting. Again, pictures will be up soon.

Deco buys in JB

We have went in to to recce for house deco items. The items there are reasonably priced and so much cheaper and more worth to get. We have gotten the following:

- Flowers/Branches, transparent glass vase and transparent white cubes.
- Flowers for our existing mini vase
- 100 x 100 cm oil portrait with frame (Abstract)
- 100 x 60 cm oil potrait with frame (Abstract)
- Modern wall clock (around 40x40cm?)

The 2 big paintings and a wall clock cost RM840 (est S$ 370) only! With this price, you probably can only get a medium size oil portrait in SG and that's it.

We have no wall drill hence could not hang the stuffs up. After we have hang them, will post pictures here.

Updates for November 2007

Some little updates:
  • High bar-table

Our high bar-table has arrived, it's placed at the balcony. Pair up with the high bar-chairs, its a good place for smoking corner, surfing, la-kopi and al-fresco dining. kekez...

  • HDB EA Showflat
We have visited HDB's EA showflat at a couple of blocks away. I think it's theme is Shock Modernalisation or something like that. We realised in order to have the WOW factor, you have to switch on every single lightings you have in the house. :-p The flat design has something which we yearn to do but never do. That is to cut a window at the Study Room and replaced with thick glass as wall. It'll create a very bright and spacious effect. The showflat color theme is grey-ish white, grey and shocking Pink.
  • Curtains

We have confirmed our curtains order (finally!!!), and did the site/windows measurement. Spent 2 hours at the curtain shop. Curtains will be installed 2 weeks later. This issue has been delayed for a long while. What we have ordered:

- 2-tone steel grey base color with glossy silver color highlight night curtain+ white color translucent day curtain for Living Room (3 big sliding doors @ Blacony area)

- Light grey base color with blueish grey color vertical stripes for Study Room's bay window

- 2-tone glossy red base color with S-curvy matt darker red stripes for MBR+BR2 wall-to-wall window.

- Curtain track (only) for BR3 as there is no occupant.

- 3m black-silver 2tones string curtain for dining hall seperator with curtain tracks.

Thoughts: We feel that the 2 tones effect on curtains will create a better 2D effects with tied up, ie less boring from the typical 1 solid color curtain. All the materails are washing machine washable, est. 75% sunlight blockage. Will be givien simplified plastic hook and tied-bands made from same material.

Final furniture deliveries!

Two final furniture deliveries:

Dining chairs ~ 4 black and 2 white color high back chairs.
Satisfied with our new chairs, it's so much better than the loan suede set. Mr Limau think we should get more white color chairs as we have too much Black... it's too late :-) Still pending to install string curtain between living and dining room.

Coffee-table ~ It's a double glass with 3 chrome rectangular legs/pillars. 15mm thick clear tempered glass top and black tinted tempered glass as base. Wondering what to put to display at underneath. Table is placed on top of the newly bought white/black carpet. On the side of the sofa, there is a fabric remote control/magazine holder, very handy!

Saw very good high bar-stools offer. We bought 2 back though we haven't gotten our high bar table. ;p Don't have much choices for colors, hence we gotten the metalic blue.

This is Mr Limau's favorite smoking corner. Oversee a view of grassfield and basketball court. It is a good corner for get-together and breakfast. But wait till we buy the table lah, haa...

Karcher vacuum cleaner

Bought a dry vacuum over the last weekend. Something that we can use to maintain curtain, sofa and corners of the house. We were choosing between wet&dry and dry(only) vacuum cleaner but in the end we chose the latter.

Karcher is a Germany brand which is specialised in cleaning products. (http://www.karcher.sg/sg/Welcome.htm) Their wet and steaming products look very impressive. Mr Limau was so gian. ;p Love this vacuum except for it's factory-looking-yellow color. The tube is in black color aluminium. *kool

1st decent meal in the house. 100% cooked by Ms Allo!

Furniture deliveries part 1

9 Aug :
Spend our holiday at home, doing nothing i.e couch potatoes. Dvds marathon to watch the Hongkong serials movie. Feeling bored, i went to bake cake with the additonal/extra baking stuffs i bot the last time. This is the things i have prepared:

Forgot to take picture of the cake i baked. This time round it's a more successful try. The cake is not so damp. Still lazy, so we decided to cook instant noodles. But i boliao and cook a little bit more 'side dishes'.

11 Aug: Furnitures delivery part 1:
10am, we have changed the basin and toilet bowl @ common toilet to new white ones. It certainly look better than the previous beigy brown ones isnt it? We were soooo glad we have got rid of them. The thought of BRAND NEW WHITE toilet bowl certainly make us very happy.

Plumber said dont use and dont wash the toilet for today.

11am, bed divan and headboard delivery.
Furnit*re Club sub-con the order to City F*rniture. They delivered our black synthetic leather with pinkish high suede headboard.

We thought the bed-set looks good. The red color headboard like livens the bedroom. We are even more excited when the mattress delivered at 11.45am, after the bed-set delivery men left. Its a memory foam kind of mattress, king size. But to our dismay, the bed-set was installed WRONGLY!! Argh.... soooo disappointed and upset, thought the bed are installed properly. The headboard are installed on the wrong side of the bed resulting the mattress too long for the length of the bedset. Kaozzzzz... See the view if we place the mattress 'wrongly' :

This will be the view when lying on the bed against the headboard.

We complained and now they took back the divan to replace the leather that they have screwed wrongly. They said they will rush and return to us tomorrow Sunday. We'll see.

Next at 2pm, delivery from Furnit*re Club.

Below is the 9' leather L-shape sofa (w stainless steel legs), with 2 suede cushions. We chose Red color for cushion as again we thought the color can liven the room. Very please with this product. The back-rest can be tilted/straighted and seat can be slide out.

sofa gadget

The back-rest is raised.

Next they bring in the dining set. The stocks for the chairs we requested have not arrived yet. The company 'T-Loan' us 4 suede chairs till the stock arrived. Our stock is 4 black+2white high back leather chairs. Below is the dining table. Black tempered glass top, with glossy black laminated support and chrome base.

We plan to have string (or metalic beads) curtains at the curtain pelmet between dining and living rooms. The colors we are considering are white, grey, silver, red or black. Maybe Black color will be out as we already have many black color furnitures. Any opinion on what color should be the string curtain??!?!
